How do I fix black screen when running Scanner Appliance in VirtualBox?

In order for the Scanner Appliance to work properly it is important that the correct type and version of the appliance is running. In order for the appliance to boot properly, the following settings need to be set in the machine. 

Type: Linux 
Version: Debian64 

In the virtualbox interface do the following
1. Select machine
2. Click Settings > General > Basic
3. Set the correct version and type.
4. Re-start the Sanner Appliance. 
5. Done!
