How do I schedule a network scan?

This article describes how to create a schedule for a network scan.

Tip: Before you create a schedule, make sure you have already created a scan profile to use for it.

Create a network scan schedule:

  1. Log in to Security Center.
  2. Click Assessments in the main menu.
  3. Click Schedules.
  4. Click + Create schedule and select Network > Vulnerability scan.
  5. Under General information, enter the following:
    • Name: the name of the schedule, e.g., "Weekly standard scan".
    • Owner: the owner of the schedule.
    • Share result: select any teams you want to grant read-only access to the scan results.
    • Profile: select the scan profile for the schedule.
    • Scanner Appliance: select External for external assessment (available when using cloud deployment), Scanner Appliance to use a specific installed Scanner Appliance for local assessment, or Scanner Appliance group to use a group of Scanner Appliances.
  6. Under Targets, enter the following:
    • IPs/IP networks: enter the targets for your scan. This can be a specific host or IP range.
    • Target resolution behavior: select Use IP addresses to scan targets using their IP addresses (default), or select Use hostnames to scan targets by translating hostnames into their corresponding IP addresses.
    • Under Tags, you can include or exclude assets based on tags:
      • Include: select whether to include assets with any or all of the selected tags, then select the tags.
      • Exclude: select whether to exclude assets with any or all of the selected tags, then select the tags.
  7. Under Web servers, you can map one or more hostnames to a single IP to improve scan accuracy for web servers hosting websites. Note that this is limited to 1 IP per scan. To map several IPs, create several schedules.
  8. Under Schedule, enter the following:
    • Start date: select the first date for the schedule to run.
    • Time: set the time for the scan to run.
    • Time zone: select the time zone for the schedule.
    • Repeat: select how often the scan should repeat, e.g., daily, weekly, or monthly. Select Don't repeat if you want the schedule to run once.
  9. Under Notifications, enable the notification channels you want to use for Notifications before scan starts and Notifications for finished scan. The available channels are Slack, Microsoft Teams, Webhooks, and Email.
  10. Click Submit.
  11. Done!
