How do I setup a scan blackout window?
Scan blackout windows can be configured as a good way to ensure that scans are not run during specific periods of time.
To set up a scan blackout window, follow the steps below:
- Login into Security Center.
- Click the Top right menu icon.
- Click Settings.
- Click Scan setup.
- Click Enable blackout window.
- Choose the timeframe when you want the blackout window to be enabled,
- Via the check box, choose whether you want the scans to resume after the window ends.
Notice that this setting only affects network scans. - Click OK.
- Done!
All scans are paused
The blackout window will affect both manually started and scheduled scans.
External scans will not be resumed after 2 hours pause
An external scanner (cloud scanner) will not be resumed if the blackout window is longer than 2 hours.
Example 1: Scanning using a Scanner Appliance
A blackout is set to between 2-4 am. A scan is scheduled to start at 1 am. The scan starts running and is still running at 2 am. The scan is paused at 2 am, continues automatically after 4 am, and is finished at 5 am.
Example 2: Scanning using an external scanner
A blackout is set to be between 2-5 am. A scan is scheduled to start at 1 am. The scan starts running and is still running at 2 am. The scan is paused at 2 am, but will not continue after 5 am, because the blackout window was longer than two hours.
Example 3: Scanning using an external scanner
A blackout is set to between 2-3 am. A scan is scheduled to start at 1 am. The scan starts running and is still running at 2 am. The scan is paused at 2 am, and will continue after 3 am, because the blackout window was shorter than two hours.
