What are the system requirements for a Scanner Appliance?

This article describes the system requirements for the Scanner Appliance.

Virtualization technologies supported

  • Citrix XenServer (version 8.x and later)
  • Microsoft Hyper-V (all versions)
  • VMware ESX/ESXi (version 7.x and later)
  • VirtualBox, Proxmox, and other hypervisors that support the .ova format

Warning: Microsoft Hyper-V must be configured as Generation 1. Generation 2 is not supported and will prevent the Scanner Appliance from booting.

Note: In certain virtualization platforms, the guest operating system on the Virtual Machine must be set to Debian 64-bit for it to boot.

Tip: If your system is using an older version of VMware ESX/ESXi, such as v6.7, v6.5, or v5.5, see the related article for more information:

How do I solve issues with the guest operating system in VMware 6.5?

System requirements

  • CPU: 4 cores
  • RAM: 8 GB minimum for network scans, 16 GB minimum for web application scans
  • Disk space: 150 GB

We recommend adding more resources to speed up assessments, especially when scanning larger networks.

Configuring resources

The system requirements must be set before the Scanner Appliance is booted for the first time.

Tip: If you run more than two concurrent scan tasks, see the related article for more information:
